It was their first time out together. He would never take her with him. “It would look odd,” he always thought. “I will be embarrassed,” he reasoned, whenever she complained that he did not take her out to places with him. Living under the same roof, they always fought. Always. Just like Tom, and his nemesis Jerry. But underneath all that fight and continuous bantering and bickering was love, though he never chose to show it. Or rather, he was not very expressive because he could not do the expressing part, just like all the boys.
After much fight, they had finally managed to reach a mall to watch a movie. She was holding on to his arm, tight, as if she was worried that she might get lost in the crowd. She wouldn’t let go of his hand, no matter how much he asked her to (but even he did that superficially, for he knew he had to protect her; she was his responsibility).
He loved her. Yes, he did. That’s why he had taken her to watch a movie that she had wanted to see, avoiding the one that he liked. He did not like the movie that she had to see but for her happiness, he would do anything. Anything, even if that meant going for a boring, melodramatic movie. He had not revealed this to her; he simply made an excuse that the movie that he had wanted to watch was full house, that is why he had to opt for this one, out of compulsion.
But only he knew the real reason. It was to bring a smile upon that innocent face of hers. After all, who does not like a smile on her sister?
