Aditya was not someone who talked a lot but he liked it when she talked. He was a person who would know the real you after you have spent some time with him. And as for Akira, he has always liked her since their very first meeting in the college about four years ago, though he never told that to anyone. He knew that deep down those beautifully pretty eyes (he loved her eyes and would always try to look into them, as Akira never made an eye contact with him when he was looking at her), was a heart so tender that it would feel pain even for someone unknown to her.
No, nothing happened from which he could have known this aspect of hers nor she ever boasted or pretended any such thing in front of him. But he knew this from the look on her face when they would see an old man on the road or a poor child begging or a bird thirstily looking for water in the scorching summers. He knew that she didn’t react to such things in front of him because of her irrational fear that she might come across as someone who is merely pretending to be good but her heart ached when she saw things like these. It was qualities like these that he admired about her and maybe even liked her. But he wouldn’t dare to confess such feelings, even to himself. After all, he had been his teacher. What would everybody say, was a constant haunting thought.
Despite all that, he could not refrain himself from enjoying her company, at least as long as he could.
Her cell phone blinked. Somebody had WhatsApp’d her. As she went on to check the message, her face went white, as white as a dead body. It was Shaily who had messaged on their college group: “Guys! Did you see FB? Aditya got married!!!! Sameer Sir posted a picture on FB with the caption- ‘At Aditya’s wedding.’ God, I can’t believe this!!!!”
Numerous responses followed this breaking news. It was hard enough to digest the news, much harder to fake excitement on the group. Akira decided just to switch off her cell and went to her bed, with the hope of finding some solace.
The next morning when she woke up (did she really even sleep?), her eyes were all swollen.
